The road back to the mountains

Mountain Gap Coffee Company is a small-batch roaster in London, Kentucky, tucked into the Appalachian mountains. It was started in 2023 by someone who grew up in these hills, left for a while, and came back to build something around a good cup of coffee and the people you share it with.

Bringing the adventure home

Born and raised in the Appalachian region, he spent many years away building a career in technology. It was a good run, but the mountains kept calling — and so did the sense of community he'd grown up with.

So he came home. Mountain Gap started as a way to bring that whole adventure back where it began: good coffee, made with care, shared with the people right here.

How we roast

We source high-quality beans and roast them in small batches, right here in Kentucky. We roast to order twice a week and stamp every bag with the date it came out of the roaster, so you always know exactly how fresh your coffee is.

We air-roast, which uses moving hot air instead of a hot metal drum. It's a gentler, cleaner roast that lets the character of each origin come through — the reason a coffee from one farm should taste different from the next. Our single origins, blends, espresso, and decaf all get the same care.

Built at the markets

It didn't start with a shop. It started with a folding table — pouring cups at local artisan and farmers markets, handing samples across the table, and talking coffee with anyone who stopped by.

Those early markets and tastings are where Mountain Gap found its feet, sharing stories over a cup and giving back to the community that showed up from the beginning. The coffee is the reason people came; the community is the reason it stuck.

Where we are now

Today Mountain Gap is a small piece of home for a lot of folks around here — and increasingly for people well beyond the mountains, too. We now ship our coffee to customers across the country who want a taste of Appalachia in their own kitchen.

It's a simple thing, really: good coffee, carried from a farm somewhere far away to the cup in your hands — with a little bit of these mountains in between.
